It’s a three concert week! Two different programs, but both including this ray of sunshine.

Thought I’d try out the new video feature with a little piece that is almost exactly 60 seconds long.
Prelude by John Dowland (c. 1563-1626). Google overview says he was born on January 2, 1563, but even the year is somewhat up for debate and no specific date is known.

This is a live recording of Elogio de la Danza by Cuban composer Leo Brouwer from a concert in February 2025. This is a fairly early work (1964) in his first period of modernist experimentation. Though the pitch material is fairly abstract, it has a dramatic rhetoric to it and compelling rhythms that make it fairly easy on audiences and a fun piece to interpret as a performer.
